I was born and raised in Spring Mills, Pennsylvania, which is a very small town 30 minutes outside of State College (the main Penn State campus). I went college prep in high school, and then moved to Prescott, Arizona to study Aviation Computer Science at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. After earning my Bachelor’s degree, I moved to Houston to work for Lockheed Martin on some NASA contracts and I’ve been there ever since.

After a few false starts on getting a second degree, 2 and a half years ago I started back to the University of Houston Clear Lake to get a Masters degree in Digital Media Studies. I’ll be finishing the degree in December of 2013.

So far my Masters degree has been a lot of fun. I’ve been learning about website design, graphic design, and photography, as well as a lot of great tools include Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Maya, Aftereffects, and Premiere. This was a bit of a stretch for me since my background is not in art, but it has been a lot of fun and a lot of work. I’m hoping to be able to use these new skills after I graduate and move into a web design career or possibly even an advertising type of career since I enjoy Aftereffects so much.

Along the way I have learned a lot of new things. I spent some time learning Neuro-linguistics Programming in Dallas. I also spent some time learning how to belly dance, earning a 2nd degree black belt in aikido, learning how to salsa dance, experimenting with cooking, traveling out of country, and now I am practicing yoga.

One of my favorite things to do is to go camping, although I haven’t been able to go camping since I started my master’s degree, I am looking forward to going the first fall after I finish. I just enjoy being outdoors and doing things. It is extremely relaxing to be away from the hustle and bustle for a while, and to do some hiking, kayaking, biking, and to throw in some geocaching.

I hope this blog is both informative and fun, and that you learn as much as you have fun with it.
